Holistic Pelvic Care™ and Holistic Pelvic Energy™ are body-based practices developed by Tami Kent (M.S. Physical Therapy) that support women to reconnect with their pelvic space through awareness, touch, breath and embodied exploration.
I offer these approaches as an occupational therapist, integrating them with my understanding of the relationship between our bodies, our experiences and the way we participate in everyday life.
Occupational therapy recognises that wellbeing is influenced by the balance between doing, being, becoming and belonging – the things we do, who we are, who we are growing into, and how we experience connection within ourselves and our communities. Our relationship with our body is an important part of this experience.
This modality approaches the pelvic space as more than anatomy alone. It invites exploration of the pelvic area as a place connected with creativity, identity, sexuality, birth, expression and the many transitions we experience throughout womanhood.
Throughout our lives, our pelvic space can be impacted by physical experiences, emotional stress, birth experiences, trauma, grief, cultural messages, relationships and the stories we carry. Sometimes these experiences are reflected through physical symptoms, tension, discomfort or a sense of disconnection from our bodies.
Through a combination of internal soft tissue techniques, breath awareness, visualisation and embodied awareness, these practices offer an opportunity to reconnect with the pelvic space, develop greater body awareness and support pelvic, menstrual and emotional wellbeing.
This approach may be a pathway to explore experiences related to birth, birth healing, pregnancy loss, sexuality, pelvic health concerns and significant rites of passage.
As with all approaches offered at The Wild Orange Tree, these techniques are woven into an occupational therapy framework, always considering the whole person, their story, their values and the life they wish to participate in.
